How ‘The Walking Dead’ turned ‘Mad Max’ into a ‘Romeo and Juliet’ sequel
The zombie apocalypse was the perfect backdrop for a sequel to ‘The Wounded’ franchise, and ‘Mad MAX: Fury Road’ star Tom Hardy was eager to see how it all came together.
The actor said in an interview with the BBC that he’s happy to see that the sequel to the cult hit franchise has finally come to fruition.
“I’m happy to be able to say that this is a real possibility,” Hardy said.
“It’s a sequel that has the power and the power to be as epic as the original, to have all the things we love in the original.
It’s going to be like ‘The War’ for me.”
Hardy has a long history with the franchise, which he co-created with director George Miller.
“Mad Max: Fury in the Desert” is slated for a March 2018 release, with a script written by Michael Bay and David Goyer.
Hardy, who is currently starring in “The Wound,” said he hopes to see the sequel as part of the “Mad” family.
“The next thing I’ll be doing is making the whole ‘Mad’ family,” he said.
The star said he thinks that “MadMax” is a series that can go on for decades.
“When you think about it, if the story is about a character that was the last of his kind and you know that they’re coming back, then why can’t it be a whole franchise?”
Hardy said in the interview.
“And if the characters have been in the same place and have been on the same planet and have come together in this way, why can, you know, have a different character, a different story, but a story that’s all about him?
So it’s really the same story.”
The actor was not at liberty to reveal details about the sequel, but he did say that “The Walking, Dead” franchise will return to theaters on May 6, 2019.
“For me, this is one of those franchises that I’ve been chasing for 10 years,” he told the BBC.
“So I’m really excited to see what the audience thinks of this and what they can do with it.”
