Why Garden City is the most expensive city in America
Garden City, Utah — A lot of people think it’s a pretty nice place to live.
But that’s only because it’s so pricey.
“I think the most surprising thing about Garden City to me is the cost of living,” said Matt Gresham, a senior in the College of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies at the University of Utah.
“The cost of housing is probably higher than the cost in most other places in the country, but I would argue it’s still a very affordable place to be,” he said.
Gresham said the cost to rent in Garden City has been increasing.
His apartment was only a few months away from going on sale.
But he said the condo sales were “pretty steep,” and he said he could not afford to buy a new one.
The average price of a home in Garden State has increased by more than 70 percent over the past three years, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
According to a report by RealtyTrac, Garden City’s median income is $73,000, which is the second highest in the state behind only Las Vegas.
That’s about $6,400 more than the state’s median annual income.
RealtyTrack found that the average rent in 2017 was $1,749 a month, about $1 a month more than in the same time period in 2016.
Garden City also has one of the highest prices for mobile home parks in the U: $1.8 million.
